Missing art and code
The Needs tab lists everything the story still needs, in one place. Its badge counts what is missing.
How it is grouped
| Group | Means |
|---|---|
| Broken | These break the game. |
| Needs code | Events with no game code yet. |
| Needs art | Missing or placeholder art. |
| Worth a look | Probably fine. |
Inside each group, things are sorted by kind: portraits, items, areas, map places, unlocks, nodes, code and other. Nothing missing. means you are done.
Click a count above or under the map to open Needs with those things highlighted.
Each thing
- Uses: where the story uses it, like Used in Harbour or Used 3×. Click to list each node, and open the node at its first use.
- Stored in: where it is in your game’s project.
- A placeholder pill on art that is still a stand-in.

Art
Placeholders
A placeholder is a plain stand-in picture your artist replaces later. Click Create placeholder. Tsumugi makes the sprite in your game, sized and set up like the others in its folder.
Placeholders are striped and marked, so you can tell them from finished art. When your artist saves real art over one in GameMaker, it stops counting as a placeholder.
Your own pictures
Use my image… picks a PNG file and adds it to your game. Replace with my image… swaps a placeholder for it.
Tsumugi won’t replace finished art.
Animations
A picture with several frames side by side can become an animation. Cut into frames asks how many frames are in the picture, and cuts it into equal parts.
Where it goes
Tsumugi asks which folder in GameMaker’s asset browser to use. With the others like it is the usual answer.
Areas and map places
- An area is the background behind the dialogue. It is drawn by an object in a room. Place in room asks which room, then places it.
- A map place is a marker on your game’s map. Add to map… opens the map: click where the marker goes. Tsumugi makes the marker for you.
Characters with no portrait
For a voice, a sign or a narrator, pick No art needed. Tsumugi stops asking for their portrait.
Code
An event your game has no code for yet is listed under Needs code. Make one from the story (Events), and Tsumugi adds an empty function to your game. A programmer writes what it does.
Deleting
Tsumugi never deletes anything from your game. To delete a sprite, object or script, use GameMaker. See What Tsumugi changes.
